With the last date for linking PAN and Aadhar card is fast approaching, Supreme Court (SC),country's apex court has directed the linking of PAN card with Aadhar card mandatory by end of Dec 2019 . As per the central board of direct taxes (CBDT) notification dated 28th Sept’2019 deadline has been extended till 31st Dec'2019.
The PAN issued by the income Tax department under the supervision of the CBDT is one of the vital document serves as Identification Proof of the Individual.
Under the Aadhar (targeted delivery of financial subsidies,benefits and services)Act 2016,the unique identity number is mandatory to receive the social welfare benefits.
As per the finance Act.If you do not link PAN with your Aadhar, then your Pan card will be declared as inoperative post 1st Jan 2020, linking Pan to Aadhar is mandatory for filing income tax returns.
How to link Pan card with Aadhar card:
There are two ways to link the PAN card with Aadhar card.

For those who want to link via SMS:
If you are unable to link the Pan Card and Aadhar card online, you can do so using SMS. You need to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number.Type in the following message:
The format : UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><SPACE><10 digit PAN>
For example, if Aadhaar number is 123451234512 and PAN is ABCDE1234E, then you need to key in UIDPAS 123451234512 ABCDE1234E TO 567678 OR 56161.
There is no extra fee, but SMS charges as levied by the mobile operator will apply.
Conclusion:
It is still not clear what will happen after the 31st Dec.2019 deadline, whether an individual need to apply or reactive the existing PAN card. However, Government has not yet clarified the meaning of "inoperative". Nothing is clear regarding this as of now, and one will only have to wait and watch.
